"Often advice I give to new employees when they would join at Netflix was don't hold back, like as questions, like give ideas, things like that. I think early days I just was just in this observing mode and would sometimes like see room for some improvements or questioning of something, and sometimes I would hold back because I would think, they probably already thought of this. But I realized quickly that no that's a part of my job to poke on the ideas and really think about them strategically, ask the dumb questions that you think they have thought of that often that haven't"
"You need to take more breaks than you think you might need to. When you are learning, if they are actually learning, it should be exhausting. It should take a lot of energy in the brain to make all these new neuron connections and whatever and so you do want to make sure that people have time to relax and take breaks."
"This can happen to you at any age, but if you're early on in your career, one of the things I can't stress enough is to work on your confidence. Now confidence isn't this idea that you know everything and you are the best therefore people can't tell you anything. Confidence is this is a problem they hired me because I solve problems, therefore I can solve this problem."
"In hindsight, no one's trajectory is really shaped by any moment. Every moment is a new moment to try something different, and of course things are impactful and can set you on a path and they can be hard to deviate from and that's how I found myself into trouble."
